Free Expungement Clinic – Monday, February 25, 2019

Vermont Legal Aid, the Department of Labor, and Upper Valley Haven will hosting a free criminal record expungement clinic on Monday, February 25, 2019. The clinic will be from 10 am to 3 pm at the Vermont Department of Labor office in White River Junction (118 Prospect St., Suite 302).

As usual, please share this information widely within and amongst organizations as well as with your clients, if applicable. I have attached a flyer with this information, an FAQ sheet on expungements in Vermont, and a list of offenses the court will not expunge.

Clients are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 802-424-4701 to minimize wait time. At this time we still have 5 appointment slots left. Walk-ins are also accepted. At this clinic there will be no phone appointments available because our March clinic (3/29) will be exclusively phone appointments.

Please note that the Court will not expunge DWIs or DUIs committed over the age of 21. They will also not expunge traffic violations such as speeding tickets. They WILL expunge Driving With a License Suspension (DLS).

UPCOMING WEBINAR: FAIR HOUSING & RIGHT TO RETURN

Over the next several months, PolicyLink will be hosting a series of webinars that lift up innovative strategies for addressing housing insecurity without compromising the important principles of fair housing. Each webinar will showcase prominent advocates and activists linking residents to housing that is safe, secure, and connected to opportunity.

Join us for the first webinar in this series:

Fair Housing and the Right to Return

Wednesday, February 20, 2018
11:30 – 12:30 pm PT / 2:30 – 3:30 pm ET

Register Now

In the face of an administration and congress that are rolling back rent subsidies, affordable housing investments, and fair housing protections, housing justice advocates and community development practitioners have come up with innovative ways to respond to the affordable housing and eviction crises impacting low-income communities and people of color. Several cities and other jurisdictions have leveraged existing fair housing protections to prevent or redress displacement by prioritizing individuals facing displacement as a result of new development.

This webinar will draw on the knowledge and experience gained through implementing successful fair housing campaigns in Portland, Oregon and New Orleans, Louisiana. Please join Dr. Lisa Bates and Cashauna Hill as they share the successes, challenges, and lessons learned in their efforts to use fair housing laws to ensure that residents facing displacement are afforded the right to remain in their respective communities.

Featured Speakers:

  • Dr. Lisa Bates, Portland State University
  • Cashauna Hill, Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center
