Good Samaritan Haven Executive Director, Barre VT
The Executive Director is responsible for building and maintaining community and donor support for the Good Samaritan Haven homeless shelter and its mission in central Vermont, as well as overseeing shelter operations. The Executive Director must possess a passion for ending homelessness; an ability to implement data-driven, trauma-informed, best-practice approaches to effectively addressing homelessness; fundraising, communication and relationship-building skills; and the ability to manage, inspire, and empower a staff team. The GSH Executive Director plays an active role as a leader among providers of services to the homeless in Vermont. The right candidate will bring enthusiasm, creativity and initiative to maintaining and enhancing GSH’s close cooperation with other service providers and programs in the area (state and local government as well as non-profit) and to work with volunteers, faith communities, businesses, donors and the funder community toward this end.
Salary and Benefits
- Full-time position – 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Some evening meetings.
- Salary range: up to $60,000 annually depending on candidate work experience, skill set, and
education level. - Benefits include a Health Reimbursement Allowance (HRA), paid vacation, holidays, and sick days.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated passion for ending homelessness, dependability, maturity and initiative,
excellent interpersonal skills. - Able to handle crisis situations skillfully and responsibly, and model this for staff and volunteers.
- Ability to effectively provide leadership and work proactively with GSH Board.
- Four-year college degree is required, preferably with major in business/non-profit
management, social work, or a related field. Graduate degree in a related field a plus. - Facility with Microsoft office applications (including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) is
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and through speaking publicly and with small
groups required. - Experience with leadership and supervision preferred.
- Experience with trauma-informed care preferred
- Knowledge of/facility with Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS) and/or
similar social services software is a plus.
Working Conditions and Requirements for Work
- Work is normally performed from shelter.
- Travel to other GSH sites, statewide meetings and conferences is to be expected.
- Must have car and valid driver’s license and be willing to travel as required during work hours.
- Some work duties will require availability outside of normal work hours, including evenings or
weekends, including on call responsibilities
