Vermont Coalition to End Homelessness

The Vermont Coalition to End Homelessness seeks to ensure that people living in Vermont have a safe, stable, affordable home, and — if homelessness does occur — it is brief, rare, and non-recurring and those experiencing homelessness are treated with dignity and respect.

Homeless Service & Education Partnership; Domestic Violence Training

December 18, 2015 by Vermont Coalition To End Homelessness

The Vermont Office of Economic Opportunity currently has two training opportunities available for staff. The first is an upcoming webinar sponsored in partnership with the Agency of Education. The 2nd is a free online training on Domestic Violence from the Agency of Human Services for individuals to complete at their own pace:

Supporting Kids Together: Homeless Service & Education Partnerships in Vermont
Join us for a webinar on Jan 12, 2016 at 11:00 AM EST
Register now!  https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6801309920218173698

Homeless shelter/service providers and PreK to 12 school partners are often serving the same kids and families who are homeless or experiencing housing crisis. The two systems have many overlapping goals when working with homeless students and their families. Learn more about the resources available in Vermont and hear from peers about their strong collaborative partnerships in Franklin and Caledonia Counties.

This webinar is hosted by the Vermont Office of Economic Opportunity, Department for Children and Families and the Vermont Agency of Education, with panelists from Voices Against Violence, Laurie’s House; Northeast Kingdom Community Action; Calendonia North, Grand Isle and Franklin Central Supervisory Unions.

A great webinar for Homeless Education Liaisons, Homeless Shelter and Service Providers (including Domestic Violence Shelters), Community Action Agencies, and Homeless Continuum of Care partners.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Domestic Violence Training
This training was created by the Department of Health’s Office of Local Health in partnership with the Vermont Network Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and the AHS Domestic Violence Steering Committee.  The purpose is to give all AHS community partners a baseline understanding of domestic violence. It is designed to develop skills and knowledge that will optimize interactions with the individuals and families who receive services from community partners.   The online, self-paced training takes approximately 1 ½ – 2 hours to complete: https://www.ahsnet.ahs.state.vt.us/DVTraining/index.html

And coming soon…

Understanding ADA & Reasonable Accommodation for Homeless Shelter & Service Providers

You know that you need to provide reasonable accommodation, but what does that actually mean in practice? We will be offering a webinar with Barb Prine of the Vermont Legal Aid Disability Law Project to gain a basic understanding of what the ADA means to your organization.
