Mental Health Advocacy Day at the State House Next Thursday, February 13

February 5, 2014 by Vermont Coalition To End Homelessness

This year’s Mental Health Advocacy Day is taking place on Thursday, February 13 at the State House in Montpelier.

Join advocates, peers, providers, and family members from all across Vermont to raise awareness and ask our legislators to support the services and programs related to mental health we need.  Folks are encouraged to share:

  • Experiences as a peer, family member, or provider with Vermont’s mental health system of care
  • The impacts of the proposed services, state budget, and legislation on meeting the needs of people living with mental illness

The day will start in Room 11 at 8:00am.   Throughout the day folks will be connecting with their legislators to highlight the importance of adequate funding, care, and attention on mental health issues.  Please contact your legislators by calling (800) 322-5616 and invite them to meet at one of the many events of the day:

From 8:00am  Ask your legislator to join you for breakfast in the Cafeteria
From 9:30 -11:30am Ask them to join us in Room 11, for a program of personal testimony, information on new programs, and awards for leadership.
11:30-1:00pm Another opportunity to meet with your own legislator – Ask them to join you for lunch in the Cafeteria.
1:00-2:00pm We will be in the Gallery in the House
2:00-4:00pm The Advocacy Day Partners will invite everyone to the Cafeteria for Ice Cream!

For more information, contact Wendy Beinner at NAMI Vermont at 800-639-6480 or wbeinner@namivt.org.
